What is Dental Sedation?
With dental sedation, we have a variety of techniques at our disposal to help patients feel more comfortable during dental procedures. Our dentists can help to determine if a dental sedation option is right for you.
At St. Clair Beach Dental Centre, our team does everything we can to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their dental appointments. Along with offering sedation options, we are committed to working at your pace, taking breaks when you need them, and providing calm reassurance as required.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide helps to calm patients and is inhaled through the nose and mouth. While you will remain awake and able to communicate, you should feel decreased anxiety, a reduced gag reflex and an increase in pain threshold. Time may seem to pass more quickly.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in pill or liquid form. Take this medication orally before a dental appointment. Though you'll be awake for the procedure, you should feel a calming, relaxing effect.
IV Sedation
IV sedatives will be administered directly into the bloodstream, through the vein. This offers the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia. You will be attached to a monitor so that the dentist can track your vital signs during the procedure.
